This isn't my idea, it was suggested to me by some Vegas-loving friends of mine, but it struck me as such a good idea that I wanted to put it out here. When many of us go to Vegas, something seems to come over us, and we all find ourselves going nuts over the little tiny bottles of shampoo, lotion, etc... in the bathrooms. We tip the maids extra hoping to get more, we even horde the mini ketchup and tabasco bottles from the room service meals we eat. I'm sure many of you, like me, get home and realize you really don't need 10 bottles of shampoo when you have a giant Costco-sized bottle gathering dust in your shower. The cats chase the little tabasco bottle around until it gets lost under the dishwasher, and the lotion sits in your desk drawer until it congeals into something you could use to seal your house. Then, on your next trip, insanity takes over, and you do the same thing again! There are people who could really use those little shampoos. Shelters for abused women try to make their charges feel "at home", and nothing feels less like being at home then sharing shampoo and soap with dozens of other people. When they can, I'm told these shelters like to make small "care packages" available to the women as they arrive, with small items like the little bars of soap and bottles of lotion that we have sitting around our homes right now. There are shelters like this (or similar shelters looking to help the homeless, the poor, children, etc...) in every major city, and there is one somewhere near you. There are a lot of worse things you could do then taking the little toiletry bottles you don't need and donating them to one of these shelters. It won't cost you much time, and it could help make a very sad woman just a bit happier.
