Silverado Steakhouse
At: South Point

The Good

  • Good Food
  • Great Service
  • Nice Decor, very calm and easy-going

The Bad

  • Expensive
  • Food quality not up to the prices

I was lucky enough to visit The Silverado Steakhouse after the big dinner rush, so the place was only about half full. We were seated quickly, and a drink was promptly put into my hand.

The booths along the walls of the large dining room are tall enough to give a sense of privacy, but not so stiff and uncomfortable as similar booths are elsewhere. They create nice a nice "snuggling" mood at the table.

(Yes, I just said "snuggle". You wanna make something of it?)

The tables in the middle of the room had nice comfy seats around them, and were spaced out enough that you weren't sharing the food at the next table.

Service was superb. Our waiter was friendly, not stiff or official or stand-offish, but brought the food at the perfect time, made sure everything was right, and kept checking in on his charges. He noticed the woman in the next booth was not happy with her fish, and when she said it was "fine", he said "Ma'am, you paid for this food, and it should be prepared exactly as you like it. I'd like a chance to make this right.". Nobody said that to my wife at Delmonico's when her $100 lobster was tough enough to bounce off the floor.

My steak and my wife's lobster tail were very good, and the side dishes were decent. The appetizers were good, but not great. The deserts were similar, good, but pretty clearly pre-packaged. In a steakhouse, it's the side dishes and appetizers that seperate a "good" steakhouse from a "great" steakhouse. Unfortunatly, Silverado is "good" in this regard.

If you are at the South Point, and don't feel like making a trip to Circus Circus's Steakhouse, then this is a fine place to have a meal. You won't go home hungry, or disappointed.
