Gilley's
At: The New Frontier

Overall: 3

The New Frontier is a western themed casino/hotel, and that theming is never as strong as it is in Gilley's Bar. The wooden floor is covered in sawdust, the tables surround a dance floor delineated by a fence made from wooden logs, country/western music videos are played on the big screen TV, the food is barbeque.

At night Gilley's is the root'n-est toot'n-est bar in Vegas, complete with line-dancing. I don't mean they have some lessons at 6 and some city folk learn to do the Electric Slide and then sit down, I mean THEY HAVE LINE DANCING. Real honest to goodness line dancing by people who think White people invented those moves south of the Mason-Dixon line. The dance floor is packed by a bunch of people who wouldn't look out of place in a Skoal's or a Smith and Wesson ad, and that's the women!

During the day the joint is a little more sedate. They serve food (barbeque, pie, etc...) and you sit at tables. The food is decent, but nothing to make you want to smother yourself in barbeque sauce.

The waitresses are attentive, bring the food on time, friendly, and generally make the place very pleasant. Of course, the fact that they are all young, beautiful, and wear string bikinis while on duty couldn't possibly affect my unshakable reviewing skills. I will admit that I did want to smother them in barbeque sauce, but I'm seeing a doctor about that.

Late nights (11pm, midnight) Gilley's has mud wrestling and "bikini bull riding", depending on what night of the week it is. While it's certainly not a substitute for visiting a strip club, it's certainly entertaining for a bit.

If you're in the area it's well worth a visit, even if it's just to get tossed off of the Mechanical Bull.
