(This has been re-written over and over again as Ronn's status changed, and he renegotiated his contracts and hunted around for his next home. I'll rewrite it in the near future, but for now I'll put the new update here. Ronn is back at the Rio, and ticket prices have gone up for his afternoon show. I don't know if the $7-drink-free show tickets are still out there, but even at the new price (about $30-$35 I think), his show is worth every penny.) Ronn is a ventriloquist, and a damn good one at that. Far beyond worrying about someone seeing his lips move, or drinking water while his puppet sings, Ronn's routine is smart and funny, and if you're not quite paying attention you should be able to convince yourself that his puppets are alive by the end of the show. If you can't, then you are a cynical cold-hearted bastard, and I sentence you to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" until you cheer up. He has several puppets, including a teenage dragon ("Scorch"), a cowboy, and a monkey, all of whom have their own personalities, giving the show a variety of routines. The humor is definitly "adult", but not at all dirty, and the kids in the audience were all enraptured as well as the drunken adults. (As an example, the kids were laughing because the puppet was making all sorts of groaning noises and falling off Ronn's lap. The adults were laughing because the puppet was impersonating Ted Kennedy.) At the Rio the show was not expensive. With a coupon you could get in and get a free drink for under $10, although you'll be happier if you avoid the nasty free drink (how can you screw up Coke?). If he remains in Vegas I assume he'll keep a similar family-friendly price and afternoon time slot. I can't see him performing amongst topless showgirls at 10:30pm. More accuratly, I can IMAGINE him working amongst topless showgirls, I just can't see him. I'm... distracted... by... Anyway... If you have a chance, where ever he may be playing in the future, go see his show, even if you have to buy real tickets.
