This is a free exhibit for the most part, and is actually a pretty cool way to spend a few minutes if you're in the MGM anyway, especially if you're waiting for a search team to find you in the frighteningly expansive casino. The Habitat is a decently sized plexiglas enclosure where the lions play, sleep, eat, and occasionally use the kitty litter. Make no mistake, these are not violent terrifying lions from deepest Africa, these guys are trained and very used to people. It kind of blows the fierceness illusion when you see one of them cuddle up to the keepers and get it's ears scratched. One of my favorite things about this exhibit is the photographs you can take with the lion cubs. If they have a cub of the right age, then let you (under very close supervision) take a picture while petting the little fellow. They used to sedate the cub to near unconsciousness and let you hold him during the picture, but they seem to have stopped that practice. The most recent cub I saw was much more active then the first one many years ago. They have a gift shop of course, where you can buy leopard print candleholders and stuffed lions and other feline tchatchka. All in all, this is a lot of fun if you are into zoos and animal exhibits, or if you have kids in your party |
