This is a shooting range much like those in many cities across the US, with one notable exception. Due to the gun laws in Nevada, you are allowed to rent and shoot fully-automatic weapons at ranges in Las Vegas. For those of us who live in California and other gun-shy states, this is an opportunity of a lifetime to do something we simply can't do at home. Those of you from Texas, I guess you can wait until you get home to blow something all to hell. This particular gun range seems to make its bread and butter from tourists. It's located very close to The Strip, it advertises in the touristy magazines, and I didn't see any locals or real gun-nuts hanging around. Nobody was discussing black helicopters or government mind control, and nobody wore a postal uniform. This is a place where you can walk up, say "I wanna shoot something loud!", and they'll take good care of you. The downside of this, is you'll pay as if you are a tourist who doesn't know anything. You'll end up paying about $45 per person whether you shoot one gun or one gun per person, so don't fight it, just everybody plunk down some cash and pick the coolest looking guns on the wall. Guns range from AK-47's to MP-5's to Uzi's all the way up to a S.A.W., a light machine gun carried by US army units (that one costs more). You get your weapon along with the ammunition already in clips for easy loading, and you're escorted into the range itself. The staff is very professional, and each shooter I saw had a "babysitter" with them. (Again, the expectation is that you are a tourist and not a gun-nut who knows his way around a range.) They'll give you a quick lesson on the gun, show you how to hold it, and let you fire away. I noticed they gave women a bit more advice on holding the gun properly, but otherwise were very egalitarian in their treatment of customers. I even saw a father with his 3 young teenage sons, all of whom were having a blast. This is expensive, but absolutely worth doing at least once in your life.
